Research Areas

All areas of research are welcomed and encouraged. The current faculty has particular interests in metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, ancient theories of the soul (including moral psychology and action theory), logic, philosophy and history of mathematics, and philosophy and history of science. Research projects deal with Plato and Aristotle, ancient commentators on Aristotle, the Presocratics, Middle Platonism, Roman Stoicism, Neoplatonism, and Arabic Philosophy.

Ancient Philosophy & Science Network

The Graduate School of Ancient Philosophy is at the heart of a lively and exciting international community of doctoral students and scholars. The community is connected through the Ancient Philosophy & Science Network (APSN). The partner institutions of the APSN are located at the University of Chicago, University of Leuven - Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Princeton University, and the University of Toronto, all of which are known for their leading philosophy and classics departments. The University of Cambridge joined the network via its unique Department of History and Philosophy of Science. Read more on APSN here.
